(PLAINFIELD) - The Duke Energy Foundation will donate $20,000 to southern Indiana Red Cross agencies to assist victims from last Friday’s deadly tornadoes.
The donation will help Ripley, Jefferson, and Clark County Red Cross chapters deliver relief to tornado victims. The Clark County Red Cross also serves Washington County, which includes the town of New Pekin that was hard hit by the storm.
"Many of us have been touched by the devastation and loss of life that were the result of the violent tornadoes that plowed through southern Indiana and parts of Ohio and Kentucky last Friday afternoon," said Doug Esamann, president of Duke Energy Indiana. "The cleanup and restoration will take many months. Local officials tell us the single most effective gift we can give right now is money."
The Duke Energy Foundation also will match, dollar for dollar, any individual contributions employees make to the Red Cross, regardless of chapter location.
Duke Energy Indiana's operations provide approximately 6,800 megawatts of owned electric capacity to approximately 790,000 customers, making it the state's largest electric supplier.
