(LAWRENCE)(WISH) - A Lawrence High School coach who was fired after a student’s accusations that he choked him now officially faces charges in connection with the incident, Lawrence Police Department said.
The student, a senior at the school, said Desmoin Cooksey, who was one of the school's football coaches, put him in a choke hold during an argument with several students on Feb. 10. The teen's mother said when she took her son to the doctor, they were told blood vessels in his eye had burst - a typical after effect of being choked.
In the following weeks, the family balked what they saw as delays in the case.
Now, an arrest warrant has been issued for Cooksey on the preliminary charges of battery and strangulation, Lawrence Police said Wednesday. He had not been arrested as of Wednesday afternoon.
