(NEW CASTLE) - A New Castle man who stabbed his father to death following an argument over the son’s leaving a wet floor behind after he took a shower has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Johnny Ray Poore told authorities he had stopped taking his medication for schizophrenia for several days before the June 16 killing.
Poore, 41, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to voluntary manslaughter in January.
Poore told authorities that he stabbed Raymond Pierce, 69, in the chest with a kitchen knife after an argument prompted by the son leaving a wet floor behind after taking a shower.
Henry County Prosecutor Kit Crane told The Star Press of Muncie on Friday that Poore would receive special programming for mental illness while he is in prison.
