(HAMMOND) - Three more bones found during an excavation of a northern Indiana cemetery dirt pile have been confirmed as human remains.
The Times reports the Lake County coroner's office analyzed the bones after finding them in the pile earlier this week.
Officials are trying to change the management of the North Township cemetery. The bones are believed to be from graves that were disturbed by previous managers of the 21-acre burial ground.
Hammond police aren't treating this as a criminal matter and say the bones could have been disinterred at the unkempt cemetery.
Township Trustee Frank Mrvan is trying to take over the cemetery. He points to the disturbed remains as proof the lot has been ignored and is in need of a government takeover.
