(PETERSBURG) - A Petersburg, woman was arrested Thursday morning in the wake of an investigation into the death of her 2-month-old son in December.

Angela Martin, 24, faces two counts of felony neglect of a dependent, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police. The state police investigation concluded that Martin failed to monitor the infant for an 11-hour period.

On Dec. 12, emergency personnel were sent to Martin's North Kennedy Lane home in Petersburg because of an unresponsive infant. By the time workers arrived, the infant, Eli Roos, had died, according to the news release. He was found lying on an adult bed.

State police Detective Brad Chandler said that the night before, between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., Martin prepared a bottle and placed Eli on his back between two pillows, propping up the bottle so the infant could drink from it.

Chandler said Martin then left the room and didn't check on the infant again until "after 10 a.m.," according to the news release.

"When (Martin) did check on Eli she found him unresponsive and called 911," the release stated.

Preliminary autopsy results listed the cause of death as positional asphyxiation due to the propped bottle.

"The investigation concluded that the bottle was propped up and the baby was drinking the milk, said state police Sgt. Todd Ringle. "A 2-month old baby can't simply take the bottle out of its mouth when its done."

Martin is being held on a $25,000 bond in the Pike County Jail.
