(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis mother threw her infant to the ground so she could stab another woman during a fight, police said.
Officers were called to the 1000 block of South Dawson Street on a report of a disturbance Thursday night.
When they arrived, they found a 27-year-old woman stabbed in the eye and suffering from multiple cuts on her face.
Witnesses said Dezirae Loftus, 21, had come into the victim's backyard and began threatening and fighting with her.
At one point, Loftus, who was holding her infant daughter, threw the baby onto the ground and stabbed the victim several times with finger covers adorned with blades.
The victim was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital.
Another woman was also injured when she tried to break up the fight, police said.
The infant was not injured. Loftus was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery.
