(CAREFREE) - A Vincennes man was arrested Thursday after leading law enforcement officers on a multicounty chase along Interstate 64 in a semi truck reported stolen from a truck stop in Crawford County.
44-year old Brent Arthur is charged with resisting law enforcement, theft and possession of stolen property, all Class D Felonies.
Allen led state police on a 32-mile chase along I-64.
Police say the 2008 Freightliner was taken about 1oclock yesterday afternoon while the driver was showering at a truck stop at Carefree in Crawford County.
About 20 minutes after it was reported stolen, a state trooper spotted the semi westbound near the Ferdinand exit.
Police said the semi was traveling between 50-60 mph when the semi drove over stop sticks at the 24 miles further down the highway at the 33 mile-marker in Warrick County.
Police say both front tires came off the semi but the truck continued on for another 1-1/2 miles before coming to a stop.
Police say Allen had to be pulled from the cab of the truck. He was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was admitted for a 72-hour mental evaluation.
After the evaluation, he will be to the Dubois County Security Center.
Police say the keys to the semi were left in the ignition and Arthur broke a window to gain entry into the truck.
