(UPLAND) - Authorities released on Tuesday the autopsy of a Taylor University student who was found dead in a dorm last week.
School spokesman Jim Garringer said Josh Larkin, 21, was found dead in his dorm room by another student in Upland about 50 miles south of Fort Wayne.
The Grant County Coroner gave a preliminary report that Larkin's death was accidental, and later determined that he died suffocating himself for sexual arousal.
Larkin was a third-year student from Excelsior, Minn., who was majoring in media communications and played trumpet in a campus ensemble.
Garringer said Larkin was an outgoing and "very well-loved" student.
Larkin's family released a statement on Wednesday, saying that they are devastated but that they know he is in a better place.
"We take great joy in the midst of our deep sorrow that Josh is worshipping in the presence of Jesus. He has no regret. He has no pain or anxiety. He knows we will join him there for eternity. Share our joy, even as you've shared in our pain," read the statement.
Family members said a scholarship has been established in Larkin's name at Chapel Hill Academy, Southwest Christian High School and Taylor University.
