(INDIANAPOLIS) - A Crawfordsville man was arrested in Indianapolis Saturday for a fatal hit-and-run accident.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of West McCarty Street and Manhattan Avenue on a serious injury accident involving a possibly flipped vehicle around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Officers arrived and found a gray 2000 Nissan with heavy damage and one of the occupants may be critically injured. They were told occupants of the striking vehicle, described as a silver 2001 Chevy, had exited and fled on foot west on McCarty Street.
EMS crews arrived and pronounced the passenger of the gray Nissan deceased from injuries sustained in the collision and the other occupant entrapped. The other occupant, Daniel Smith, 31, was freed and transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The deceased passenger has been identified as 34-year-old Johnny Parker.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the silver Chevy was traveling north on Manhattan Avenue at a high and reckless rate of speed, disregarded a stop sign and collided with the gray Nissan on the driver's side that was traveling west on McCarty Street.
About 11 hours later, 24-year-old Justin Lang of Crawfordsville surrendered to police. He admitted to being the driver of the Chevy and that he had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening. He has been preliminarily charged with felony operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
Lang is being held on a $60,000 bond while he awaits formal charges from the prosecutor's office.
