(INDIANAPOLIS) - U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar and Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock are preparing for their only debate in the Republican Senate primary race.
Wednesday's debate should give voters a better look at the two men vying for their party's nomination in the May 8 primary.
The battle between the six-term Lugar and Mourdock has been dominated by television ads, campaign phone calls and debate among Indiana's conservative voters. But on Wednesday the two men will field questions from Hoosiers, side by side, during the event hosted by the Indiana Debate Commission.
Lugar came under fire last week for his support for gas taxes and oil price controls, but he says the attacks heavily distort the facts. Lugar supporters call Mourdock a pawn of Democrats because of their coordinated attacks against Lugar.
1340 AM WBIW will air the debate Tuesday night starting at 7pm.
