(INDIANAPOLIS) - IMPD officers shot and wounded a man who was reportedly causing trouble at a nightclub on the west side Tuesday night.
Police were called on a report of trouble with a person at Patty's Showclub at 2014 West Washington Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Patrons at the club told police a man was acting weird, threatening to return and "shoot up the place."
After officers were given the man's description by witnesses at the club, they found him walking on West Washington Street. When officers exited their police cars, the suspect confronted them and fired at them. None of the officers were struck.
Police then chased the suspect west on Washington for several blocks, then south on Addison Street, east and south into alley. There, according to police, the suspect turned and pointed his gun directly at the officers. Fearing for their own lives, the officers fired at the suspect, striking him with several shots.
Officers called in medics, who took the wounded suspect to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
Police are not naming the suspect and officers involved to give investigators an opportunity to thoroughly investigate the incident.
The officers involved will be placed on paid administrative leave for an undetermined amount of time, per IMPD policy in officer-involved shooting cases.
