(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man was fatally shot while driving on Indianapolis’ north side Sunday afternoon, crashing the car into a house.
Indianapolis police were called to the 2700 block of Indianapolis Avenue about 2 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the area.
When officers arrived, they found a silver Dodge Charger lodged in the front of a house.
"The ... driver of the vehicle was laying on the ground a short distance away and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics from multiple apparent gunshot wounds," said Indianapolis police Sgt. Linda Jackson.
The identity of the victim, described as in his late 20s or early 30s, was not immediately released.
Witnesses told police that a passenger was also inside the car that was southbound on Indianapolis Avenue at the intersection of 28th Street when multiple shots were fired at the car.
The car kept moving southbound on 28th Street, running into the front of a house on the east side of the road, police said.
The passenger was taken to Methodist Hospital suffering from wounds that are not believed to be life-threatening.
"He was not shot. He is being treated for injuries related to flying glass, the trauma of being involved in something like this," Jackson said.
Witnesses told police that a silver or gray newer model Ford, possible a Fusion with Illinois or New York license plates, may have been involved in the shooting. The Ford was last seen southbound on Indianapolis Avenue.
Police asked anyone with information to call 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
