(GROVE CITY, OHIO) - An Ohio woman walking her dog is the third to come across a check from tornado-devastated Henryville.
WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, reported that Donna Stevens of Grove City in suburban Columbus found the check from Henryville, about 170 miles away.
She said she thinks it may have been carried by March tornadoes that destroyed Henryville and other southern Indiana communities and killed 13 people.
"A light switch kind of came on in my head, and I remembered there had been a horrible tornado there," Stevens said.
The $10 check, dated 1982, is made out to cash and signed.
"I knew then that I had something that had traveled a long distance to Grove City," Stevens said. "I was hoping that maybe somehow maybe someone would see a story or something and know something about this or have found other items from this family."
A check from the same family, dated 1980, was found in Jamestown and one dated 1984 was found outside Cincinnati.
A Walden phone listing in Henryville rang out of service.
