(INDIANAPOLIS) - One person was killed and three people were injured in a shooting on Indianapolis’ near-north side late Friday.
Indianapolis police were called to the 3200 block of North New Jersey Street about 10:30 p.m. on reports that multiple people had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found a crowd surrounding the four victims.
A 25-year-old woman was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A 47-year-old man was also taken to Wishard, suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
A 41-year-old man was taken to Methodist Hospital. He was shot in the back, and a 25-year-old woman was grazed on the chest. She was not hospitalized.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
Family and friends told police that the crowd had gathered at a home to celebrate the life of a relative who had recently died.
"At some point, an unknown number of suspects fired multiple shots at the residence from between the houses across the street," said Anthony Schneider, Indianapolis police public information officer. "The suspects then fled the scene."
Three of the victims were standing in front of the home, and one was inside the home at the time of the shooting, police said.
An IndyGo bus was brought in to transport nearly 40 people to a police station to be interviewed.
Police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
