(ALLEN COUNTY) - A man and his three-year-old granddaughter were injured when the ATV they were on crashed Sunday afternoon.
Indiana Conservation Officers said it happened around 3:20 p.m. at a home on St. Joe Road.
Officials said Dale Compton, 63, was backing the ATV out of the garage. His granddaughter was sitting on the seat in front of him.
When he put it in gear, the three-year-old grabbed the handlebars and applied pressure to the throttle.
The ATV sped forward in the gravel driveway and then rolled over. Compton and the child were thrown from it.
Compton was taken to the hospital with head and internal injuries.
The three-year-old was also taken to the hospital with cuts to her head and face.
Officers said neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
