(HAMMOND) - A series of threatening, expletive-filled voice mail messages have resulted in a northwestern Indiana man being charged with retaliating against a federal official by threat and threatening President Barack Obama.
The Post-Tribune reported Saturday that 32-year-old Jimmie Ray of Hobart has been ordered held and evaluated to see if he can assist with his defense. He was arrested April 27.
A probable cause affidavit filed in federal court in Hammond and made available Friday said Ray left six messages at the FBI office in Merrillville beginning April 25.
The affidavit said the messages complain about FBI agents and contained a threat to blow up the White House.
Ray's attorney, Steve Scheele, said he has filed a notice of an insanity defense and that the "notice speaks for itself."
