(HOLLAND, Ohio) - A football player from a semi-pro team in Jay County died during a game Saturday.
The Toledo Blade newspaper reports 32-year-old David Coleman Jr. died after he was hit on a play in a benefit game near Toledo Saturday afternoon. Coleman, a linebacker and defensive lineman for the Jay County Panthers in Portland, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
An autopsy is planned for Monday, though police say Coleman's death appeared to be the result of an accident.
The Jay County team plays in the Crossroads Football League, which is made up of 12 teams from around Indiana and Ohio. Saturday's game was a benefit to raise money for ALS research.
