(INDIANAPOLIS) - Lifeguards are being credited with saving the life of a girl who was found unresponsive in a city pool Friday.
Firefighters were called to the Thatcher Park Recreation Center at 4649 W. Vermont St. just after noon on a report of a near drowning.
They found lifeguards treating a preteen girl who witnesses said had been pulled from the pool unresponsive.
"Lifeguards quickly noticed there was an issue and immediately responded and began treatment, successfully resuscitating the child," said Wayne Township Fire spokesman Mike Pruitt.
The girl was taken to Indiana University Health's Riley Hospital for Children in stable condition.
Pruitt said the girl was on a field trip at the pool from a Warren Township school.
