(ANDREWS) - The beach at one of Indiana’s largest lakes will be closed during the Memorial Day weekend because of low water levels.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says Salamonie Lake is 14 feet below its normal summer level because of dry weather this spring.
The nearly 2,900-acre reservoir spans Huntington and Wabash counties about 30 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.
Boating and fishing will still be allowed, with Salamonie Lake's two boat ramps remaining open. The DNR, however, is discouraging water skiing because shallow water will leave water skiers more vulnerable to underwater hazards.
