(BEECH GROVE) - An Indianapolis man faces multiple charges after he beat his uncle in the head with a hammer, police said.
Jason Skeens, 29, was arrested Sunday on preliminary charges of battery causing serious bodily harm, criminal recklessness and resisting arrest.
Police said Skeens pulled his uncle, Jeffrey Reuter, 53, out of his truck in the 4700 block of Red Robin Drive on Sunday afternoon and struck him repeatedly with a hammer.
When police were called to the scene by witnesses, they found a pool of blood and a hammer with a broken handle, according to the police report.
Officers found Skeens driving nearby, but when they tried to pull him over, he took off, police said.
The chase, reaching 60 mph on side streets, ended at a dead end in the 300 block of North Detroit Avenue, where Skeens tried to run, police said.
Skeens was arrested a short time later.
Reuter suffered a broken nose, broken finger and a possibly broken jaw in the attack, police said.
