(NOTRE DAME) - St. Joseph County Police have confirmed to WSBT that two Notre Dame football players were arrested early Thursday morning.
South Bend Police were dispatched to a home on 716 North Notre Dame avenue just after 12:30 a.m.
Sgt. Bill Redman of St. Joseph County Police says Quarterback Tommy Rees and Linebacker Carlo Calabrese were booked into the St. Joseph County jail just after 1:00 a.m.
According to Redman, Rees was arrested for public intoxication, resisting law enforcement, minor consumption and battery to law enforcement - a felony charge.
Police say that Rees was pepper-sprayed prior to being taken into police custody.
Calabrese was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Notre Dame issued this statement Thursday morning regarding the arrests:
"The University is aware of this incident and is confident that it will be handled in a prompt and professional manner through the criminal justice system. Internal discipline is handled privately, in accord with our own policies and federal law."

Rees and Calabrese are due back in court May 17.
Rees is one of the 4 Notre Dame quarterbacks competing this year for a starting position on the Irish football team.
