(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 4-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his 14-year-old cousin on Indianapolis’ east side Saturday night, police said.
Officers were called to the Beechwood Gardens Apartments in the 2700 block of North Graham Avenue just after 11 p.m. on a report of a child stabbed.
They found a 4-year-old boy suffering from multiple stab wounds in a room on the first floor of the apartment.
Officers administered CPR until medics arrived. The boy was taken to Riley Hospital for Children in critical condition, where he died a short time later.
Investigators said they determined the boy's cousin, a 14-year-old girl, may be responsible for the stabbing.
The girl was found covered in blood, walking in the 2300 block of Ritter Avenue, police said.
Police said they believe the 4-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister were at their grandparents' apartment, along with their 14-year-old cousin. The grandparents were upstairs at the time of the incident.
"At this time, an arrest has not been made, but an arrest is likely," Indianapolis police spokesman Officer Kendale Adams said early Sunday. "This is an ongoing investigation, and more information may be released at a later time."
