(RICHMOND) - Authorities released new details on Wednesday in the slaying of a pregnant teacher from Richmond.
Tonawanda Thompson, 32, was just weeks from her due date when she was shot several times in her torso as she sat inside her car last week. Thompson and her unborn child did not survive, officials said.
Police said Thompson's ex-boyfriend, Billy Nakis, 39, apologized in a suicide note discovered inside his home.
Nakis' body was found on Tuesday and detectives said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Despite the apology, Richmond Police Lt. Jon Bales did not name Nakis as an official suspect in Thompson's killing, RTV6's Derrik Thomas reported.
Investigators said a .45 caliber handgun was found in Nakis' home, but a different caliber weapon was used in Thompson's killing.
Investigators said in an interview following Thompson's death Nakis told detectives he was the father of her unborn child.
