State Panel Seeking Applications For Indiana Supreme Court Vacancy

Last updated on Thursday, May 31, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A state panel is seeking applicants for the third vacancy in two years on the Indiana Supreme Court. The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission will accept applications until June 29.

Justice Frank Sullivan plans to retire this summer to take a teaching job at Indiana University's McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. Sullivan was appointed in 1993 by Democratic Gov. Evan Bayh. His replacement will be the third justice to be appointed by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Chief Justice Brent Dickson says in a statement that the commission will hold public interviews of candidates on July 17-18, followed by second interviews on Aug. 8-9. The panel then will narrow the candidates to three finalists whose names will be submitted to Daniels, who will appoint the new justice.

Applications are available online at http://www.in.gov/judiciary/jud-qual/2880.htm.
