Teen Dies In Crash After Commencement

Last updated on Tuesday, May 29, 2012

(CLINTON)- A 18-year-old woman died in a weekend car crash shortly after leaving her high school commencement in western Indiana, police said.

Jeana Lunsford died Saturday at an Indianapolis hospital where she was airlifted following the crash along Indiana 63.

Police said Lunsford had just left South Vermillion High School in Clinton after receiving her diploma when she lost control of her car, which flipped and ejected her. An 18-year-old passenger, Jonathan Hall, was treated and released from a local hospital.

South Vermillion School Corp. Superintendent Dave Chapman told the Tribune-Star that Lunsford's death coming just as she was beginning her post-graduation life "just tears at your gut."

Friends have erected a makeshift memorial for Lunsford at the crash site about 20 miles north of Terre Haute.
