(INDIANAPOLIS) - An openly gay Indianapolis teen who was expelled after he brought a stun gun to school to defend himself against bullies was attacked at Circle Centre Mall over the weekend.
Darnell "Dynasty" Young, 17, was walking through the food court Friday evening when a man started yelling homophobic slurs and confronted him, police said.
According to the police report, Khyran Delay, 34, pushed Young and punched him in the face.
Delay, who told police he recognized Young from news coverage, was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery with injury.
Young suffered a bruised eye.
Young was expelled from Indianapolis Public Schools' Arsenal Technical High School earlier this month after he pulled the stun gun on a group of students he said was calling him names and threatening to beat him up because he is gay.
