(GREENFIELD) - A 3-year-old girl died Monday, a day after she was found hanging from a car window in her family’s driveway, police said.
Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Pixy Court, where Jama Reynolds, 27, was performing CPR on her daughter, Payton Goff.
Reynolds told police that she left the girl to play in the garage while she and her 8-year-old son went into the house.
When Reynolds came back out five minutes later, she told police she found the girl hanging outside of the family's car, with her head inside the partially open driver's door window.
The girl was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital and then transferred to Riley Hospital for Children, where she died on Monday.
Investigators said the child was playing on her tricycle and apparently wanted to get into the car. She put her head through the window, and the tricycle rolled away, leaving her hanging.
Greenfield police Maj. Derek Towle called the death a "horrible accident" and said that charges are not expected.
"There's a tricycle that we believe the youngster was riding at the time or at least messing with," Towle said. "The wheels moved out from underneath her and then the baby got stuck. It just took a few moments for the injuries to occur."
