(ELKHART) - Northern Indiana police say two collisions with cars have killed three bicyclists who were riding along county roads before dawn.
Undersheriff Sean Holmes of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department tells WNDU-TV that Thursday's deaths are "very tragic and unfortunate."
The first death occurred about 3:35 a.m. when a car collided with a bike traveling in the same direction, killing 60-year-old Ramundo Macjado Sabad of Elkhart. Police believe Sabad was riding to work. The driver of the car in that crash fled the scene.
Two and a half hours later, two teenagers riding their bikes along a county road were struck by a car traveling in the opposite direction.
The car's driver was not cited in that crash, which killed 18-year-old David Anglemyer and 19-year-old Daniel Runion, both of Goshen.
