(UNDATED) - Hoosiers have the chance to honor police officers killed in the line of duty.
The Fallen Officer Blood Drive is underway and continues through July. It is organized by Janice Starnes, the widow of Sgt. Dan Starnes from the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. Starnes was shot in the line of duty June 14, 2001. He died 27 days later from complications.
Janice Starnes organized a local blood drive in her husband's memory.
In 2007, she decided to take the blood drive statewide and renamed it the Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive. Blood donation sites are located in nearly every county statewide. It was a record last year, with 5-thousand-704 units collected.
