(NOBLESVILLE) - A car fire at a Noblesville apartment complex spread to one of the buildings, destroying dozens of units Sunday.
The fire was first called out as a garage fire at the Deer Chase Apartments at 12190 Whirlaway Drive just before 11 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find several cars, a carport and an apartment building on fire.
Alisia Kluger and her husband were just getting home from church when the fire began to spread.
"So I ran to the hallway of one of the buildings it was spreading to and knocked on all the doors and then called 911," she said.
Kluger's cries of "fire" alerted Joshua Wolf that something was wrong.
"A young lady knocked on our door and got us out. We came over and the carport in front was on fire," he said. "About the time we had gotten back around front, the building had caught, and we just left. We didn't look back after that."
All residents were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.
It took firefighters about an hour to get control of the blaze, a battle hampered by uncooperative hydrants.
"Two of the valves were shut - I'm not going to say completely off - but they were restricted where we could not get water," said Division Chief Rick Russell.
About 25 apartments were destroyed. Several others have smoke and water damage.
