(LAWRENCEBURG) - A Lawrenceburg man was arrested Thursday night after more than a six-hour standoff with police.
William Hoffman, Jr., 31, was preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness, a Class D felony. Lawrenceburg police said more charges could be filed.
Police responded to the 100 block of E. William Street at approximately 8:43 p.m. to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found what they described as an "uncooperative male."
Police said Hoffman came outside the home and went back inside. When he returned, police said he had a firearm. They said no shots were fired at this time and Hoffman retreated back inside the house.
The officers negotiated with Hoffman, but police said the suspect began firing shots around 11 p.m. The officers returned fire, striking Hoffman in the back of one of his shoulders.
At approximately 3 a.m., the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team made entry into the home and took Hoffman into custody.
Hoffman was transported to Dearborn County Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Cincinnati for further treatment. Police said Hoffman's wound is non-life threatening.
No one else was injured in the incident.
