(INDIANAPOLIS) - A man pulled from the White River on Thursday died after being hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

About 5:15 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the White River between Oliver and Kentucky avenues near the former General Motors plant on reports of a person in the water.

Witnesses said they saw someone swimming, but the person reportedly went underwater and wasn't seen again.

Just before 5:45 p.m., dispatchers said they pulled a man out of the water.

Officials said he had been submerged for at least 30 minutes.

The unidentified man was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he later died, officials said.
