(TIPPECANOE COUNTY) - A pregnant Lafayette woman died in a car crash late Friday, but police were able to save her baby, officials said.
Angelica Thrash, 25, was driving north on State Road 25 near Buck Creek in Tippecanoe County just before midnight when her vehicle hit a tractor-trailer before crashing into a telephone pole.
Doctors said they were able to perform an emergency surgery to save the baby's life.
Thrash was reportedly seven months pregnant and her 3-year-old and 7-year-old children were also in the car at the time of the crash.
"I saw two little boys in the car trying to get towards their mother, and there was a power line down so I had to clear that and get the boys out of that area," Lt. Tom Davison said.
Police said Thrash's two children were not seriously hurt.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
