(MADISON COUNTY) - Madison County officials said a suspicious package found Monday near Anderson contained a bomb.
Sheriff Ron Richardson said the package was found at 4200 N. State Road 9 and forced the evacuation of homes within a quarter-mile radius of an area just north of Anderson .
"The device that was inside a bag opened by one of the people who lived at the home has been determined to be a bomb," Richardson said.
The bomb was designed to explode when the bag was opened, authorities said.
Officials said a robot was used to de-activate the bomb and investigators worked to determine the type of explosives used.
No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.
