(UNDATED) - Emergency rooms are seeing more patients during this extended hot streak.
Wishard Hospital said patients are coming in for all kinds of heat-related reasons, whether it's working outside for too long, not drinking enough water or being without air conditioning.
Dr. Michele Peggs believes it's very important to keep an eye on one another during heat waves like the one we're in tonight.
"Not everyone will ask for help and sometimes it's just a matter of checking in on someone that you're concerned about."
In addition to checking on the elderly, you should also visit people with chronic illnesses like asthma or COPD. The intense heat can make it very difficult for them to breathe.
Always make sure you are drinking plenty of water no matter what you are doing.
