(VALPARAISO) - A pregnant horse rescued after becoming trapped on a northwestern Indiana railroad bridge has given birth to a filly.
Co-owner Roni Byvoets tells The Times of Munster that the mare, named Anna, gave birth early Thursday to a chestnut filly after a very long labor. She says both horses are doing well.
The pregnant horse became trapped Wednesday evening on a railroad bridge near Valparaiso when one of her hooves became stuck between the bridge's wooden ties. Fireworks had apparently spooked the horse, which ran out of her stall and onto the bridge.
Several people worked to rescue the horse, while others stopped an approaching freight train before it hit the trapped animal.
Anna suffered minor injuries to one of her legs during her ordeal.
