(BEECH GROVE) - Hundreds of Beech Grove residents woke up Tuesday to find fliers from the Ku Klux Klan strewn across their neighborhoods.
The notes, declaring a "dark time for America," were placed in plastic bags with rocks to hold them down and thrown on lawns, driveways and sidewalks.
The letters, purportedly from a group called the United and Southern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, expressed a dislike of the current government, President Barack Obama and the way the country is being run.
Some homeowners said they believed certain residents were targeted.
"They're not on everybody on our court, just the people who have mixed children or a black family member," one resident said. "Even the Chinese guy that lives on our court had one in his yard."
Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley said his phone had been ringing off the hook with complaints about the fliers.
"It's too bad that whoever did this didn't funnel their activity into something positive for the city instead of going door to door like a coward and throw it out their window as they drove by," Buckley said.
Homeowners said they hope it's the last they hear from the KKK.
"I tell you, I grew up in a period where the Ku Klux Klan was prominent, and I am glad it is gone now," said Gene Wessling.
Beech Grove police said they investigated the fliers but said they do not believe any laws were broken.
