(SANDBORN) - A Sandborn woman and her disabled son barely escaped when their car burst into flames on State Road 57 near Elnora on Wednesday.
The Daviess County Sheriff's Department says Frieda Burk says she saw smoke coming from her car and pulled off the road and saw flames coming from the engine compartment. She was able to pull her son from the car and returned to retrieve his wheelchair.
Within seconds of getting the wheelchair--the car burst into flames-with the fire spreading to a nearby field.
