(GREENWOOD) - Police are searching for a man who they said repeatedly sexually assaulted a woman while she was asleep in her bed.
Greenwood police said the woman was asleep in her apartment at the Ashmore Trace apartment complex when she woke up to a stranger on top of her in her bed sometime after 4 a.m. Sunday.
The man was armed and threatened to harm the woman and her children if the woman screamed, police said.
The man repeatedly sexually assaulted the woman over a couple hours, officials reported.
The Greenwood Police Department is searching for a white man who is in his 30s, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds and has a mustache and goatee with scruffy facial hair.
Police said the man was wearing camouflage cargo shorts, light-colored tennis shoes and possibly a plaid shirt.
Police said the man has tattoos of bricks down one of his arms and possibly a tiger tail on his lower leg.
The same man is suspected of attempting to enter a nearby residence earlier Sunday evening, police said.
Police said they think the man lives nearby or has local ties, and he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police have asked that anyone with any information about the crime or the man in question contact the Greenwood Police Department at 317-882-9191. Anonymous tips can be called in at 317-865-0300.
