(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis woman was found dead in her apartment Monday night when the Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a fire at the residence.
Firefighters were dispatched to 3625 Wingate Terrace in the Spanish Oaks Apartments complex on the city's east side after receiving a call from a woman who said she could see smoke coming from under her neighbor's door.
When crews arrived, they could see smoke at the apartment door.
Crews had the fire under control in 15 minutes.
Battalion Chief Phil Reuter said the apartment building, which had four units, sustained about $35,000 in damage.
The identity of the deceased woman will not be released until her next of kin has been notified.
No other injuries were reported.
Investigators from IFD and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the fire. IMPD Homicide is also investigating, which is standard procedure on all fatalities, according to IFD.
