(INDIANAPOLIS) - A former high school teacher accused of raping a 16-year-old student has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Daniel Goens, 45, who taught at and formerly coached football and track at Monrovia High School, was originally charged with rape, criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement and two counts of child seduction.
He pleaded guilty to criminal deviate conduct and providing false information on a handgun license. He was sentenced to eight years on the first charge and two years on the second charge.
The 16-year-old girl told police that Goens sent her sexual text messages and pictures beginning in January 2011 and forced her to have sex with him in late April 2011.
