(KOKOMO) - A Kokomo man who killed his mother was sentenced to 50 years in prison Friday.
As part of a plea agreement, Ronald Calvert pleaded guilty to murder for the death of his mother, Joyce Philapy. Calvert said he killed his mother because he got sick of her.
The probable cause affidavit stated Calvert said he got into a verbal argument with his mother. He said he beat his mother repeatedly before stabbing her.
Calvert told investigators he was "sick of Philapy and tired of living with her." When asked what he planned to do after leaving the home, Calvert replied he intended to kill someone else.
Philapy died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest, according to Howard County Coroner Jay Price.
