(INDIANAPOLIS) - A Beech Grove couple waited 16 years for the wedding of their dreams, and they finally made it a reality Wednesday.
A nonprofit called Wish Upon a Wedding made it happen.
The organization provides ceremonies for couples facing terminal illness.
Wednesday's event for Stacey and James took place at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
For Stacey and James, the chance to renew their vows in a formal way in front of friends and family, including their children, was extremely special.
Stacey was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. Her cancer has returned and has spread throughout her body. She knows her time is short, and she wanted to do the ceremony for her kids.
For family and friends, such as matron of honor Melissa Riggs, the ceremony exceeded expectations.
"It's awesome -- a great experience," Riggs told RTV6's Drew Smith. "It's amazing. I mean she didn't get to have a big wedding, and this something she dreamed of, something every girl wants."
Monica Richard heads up the Indianapolis chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding. She said once the organization received the application for Stacey and James, she took immediate action.
"Every single weekend, we in the wedding industry hear the words 'in sickness and in health.' This couple lives it every single day. That's why this wedding's important," Richard said.
Stacey and James' was the fourth Wish Upon a Wedding ceremony to take place in Indianapolis.
Everything was donated, from the venue, to the dinner, and even the wedding cake.
