(SHELBYVILLE) - A Shelbyville teacher faces 13 counts including sexual misconduct with a minor.
Bethany Appleton, 28, was arrested after an investigation by the Shelbyville Police Department. Appleton was employed by Shelbyville Central Schools as a middle school teacher.
Police say there are several alleged victims. Their investigation found that Appleton had sexual relations with at least one victim, a 15-year-old boy, at her home. Investigators also say Appleton provided the victims with alcohol and marijuana, and that at certain times, she drank and smoked marijuana with the victims.
The alleged events occurred from April 2011 to May 2012.
"Initially, it just disgusts me," said Keith Graham, the father of an incoming Shelbyville High School freshman.
Graham says he can't understand why teachers continue to violate the trust of not only the school and the parents, but also the students.
"If a female teacher is having sexual relations, allegedly, with students, then you know that teacher obviously has some psychological problems," he said.
Shelbyville Central Schools notified the Indiana Department of Child Services of possible misconduct by Appleton, prompting the investigation. The Shelbyville Police Department then launched an investigation with the complete cooperation of Shelbyville Central Schools. The investigation involved the Shelbyville Police Department, Indiana Department of Child Services and Shelbyville Central Schools.
Appleton faces the following charges:
count 1: sexual misconduct with a minor (class b felony)

count 3: sexual misconduct with a minor (class c felony)
