(ANDERSON) - A K-9 officer responding to a bank robbery in Anderson was shot and injured after the suspect fired shots at police, officials said.
State police said they were notified about a robbery at the PNC Bank in the 2900 block of Nichol Avenue in Anderson when an armed man walked into the bank and demanded money.
Witnesses said the man took off from the bank on a bicycle. Investigators called a K-9 officer to the scene to pick up on the man's scent.
The K-9 officer led police to a nearby soybean field. Investigators released the K-9 officer into the field to capture the suspect who was hiding in the field. Police said the suspect, identified as Joseph Turner, fired shots at the K-9 officer before attempting to escape police on foot.
Police surrounded the field and Turner was eventually taken into custody at the Madison County Jail.
Investigators said Magnum suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
