(GREENWOOD) - A Greenwood 3-year-old was rushed to the emergency room Thursday night after her mother said she took 21 prescription pills.
The mother is now facing preliminary charges of possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and neglect of a dependent.
Officers were called to the apartment in the 1000 block of Kings Mill Road at Polo Run Apartments after the mother found the child struggling to stand or hold her head up. The mother, 20-year-old Farris Joan Ryan, said she found an empty plastic bag in her room that had been holding 21 Klonopin pills. The medicine is used to treat seizures and anxiety.
Ryan told police she tried to get the girl to vomit before calling police. She also said she didn't have the pills subscribed to her; she said they were from a friend. Although she initially told police she had them for pain, she later admitted she was going to sell them.
As of Thursday, doctors said the child would be OK.
