People in Illinois will soon get a chance to hunt a new animal that hasn't been allowed in over 80 years.
Michael Clouse if WTHI, reports for the first time since 1929, residents will now be able to trap river otters.
Before 1990, it was estimated only 100 of the animals existed because of loss of habitat and unregulated hunting.
Since then, however, river otters have flourished and it's estimated there could be as many as 30,000 in two years.
Trapping season for the animals begins November 5th north of Interstate 72 and November 10th south of Interstate 72.
