(TERRE HAUTE) - A fire claimed the life of one person Sunday morning on the south side of Terre Haute.
WTHI reports, police, fire and emts responded to a call about a fire at an apartment building in the south side of Terre Haute.
Flames were visible upon arrival as firefighters worked as quickly as possible to battle the flames emitting from one of the apartments in the building, and evacuate remaining tenants.
One person was found dead inside the apartment. No names have been released at this time.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flame before it spread to any of the other apartments.
The fire was ruled as accidental, and, upon investigation, a smoke detector was located in the dwelling; however, it was not in working order.
No firefighters were injured.
