(INDIANAPOLIS) — A man who broke into a home on the city’s near-north side early Friday was shot in the arm by the homeowner, police said.
Dispatchers had initially sent officers to the area about 6 a.m. to investigate an attempted rape near 19th Street, and police were in the process of setting up a perimeter in the neighborhood, RTV6's Jack Rinehart reported.
While searching for the attempted rape suspect, Indianapolis Metro Police Department officers said they spotted two burglary suspects carrying a 55 inch TV through the perimeter.
When the suspects spotted police, they dropped the TV and took off running, IMPD Sgt. Jack Simpson said.
Just before 6:30 a.m., detectives said one of the two suspects broke into a home in the 2100 block of North New Jersey Street in an attempt to escape police.

The suspect, Anthony Henderson, 20, was shot in the arm by the homeowner, who found Henderson hiding under a desk in the living room.
"He stated the guy was underneath a desk. He leaped out at him, so he fired a few shots at him. The subject ran," Simpson said.
Henderson was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Simpson said the suspect in the attempted rape and the other burglary suspect remain at large.
