(INDIANAPOLIS) - One person was injured trying to escape an early morning fire Monday on the city’s near east side.
Fox59 News reports, Indianapolis firefighters were dispatched to the 2200 block of Brookside Parkway South Drive at 12:45 a.m.
When they arrived, flames could be seen coming from the house and garage.
Firefighters quickly attacked the flames and brought the fire under control in 45 minutes.
According to Indianapolis Fire Department Public Information Officer Lt. Larry Tracy, Catherine Royalty, 61, woke up to a strong burning smell.
Thinking she left the stove on, Royalty checked the kitchen but quickly found her attached garage on fire.
Royalty and her husband Elvin, 63, escaped the fire with their dog and immediately called 911.
Mrs. Royalty suffered second degree burns on both feet, fire officials say.
She was transported to Wishard Hospital for treatment.
Fire investigators are attempting to determine what caused the fire that caused about $75,000 dollars in damage.
